Home Harp Composition Blog

Chris Nimmo Right at the moment most of my composition time goes towards by studies at the New Zealand School of Music, but I'm always open for anybody to come at me with ideas!

Compositionally, I have an interest in microtonal music and exploring new ways to approach modernist theory. I tend to write quite often for harp, since it is the instrument I'm most familiar with, and there can be a lack of interesting music, especially for lever harp. Aesthetically, I find the whole construction of the "abstract" interesting, particularly the disconnection between its visual and aural constructions. Art which shows the world as we see it might be considered natural and acceptable, but art which sounds the world as we hear it is apparently abstract and threatening. As an instrumental/vocal composer, I try to show something of the chaos, while hopefully bringing out some of the universe's true theme.

Here is our hope: in the mystery of suffering is the heartbeat of Love, Love that will not let go!
