| "...they venture..." is my final composition for NCEA Level 3, although there's a reason that I didn't submit it for scholarship. Well two reasons actually. Firstly, it hasn't been recorded. Secondly, I'm not yet really satisfied with it, the ending particularly. I feel that the ideas I had for this piece really need another 3-5 minutes to express themselves without getting piled on top of each other as they are in the present form. Originally the beginning and ending sections were intended to be of equal length, but I simply didn't have time to achieve this. At the moment this piece really suffers from three entirely different concepts being shoved atop one another. Firstly there is the chordal structure demanded by the ruthlessly boring task, secondly there is some Arvo Paert pastiche, and lastly there is my own "style" (ie. the stuff that makes part of this sound painful). I'm very proud of my pretentious title. |
