| My "Limpid Suite" was originally written for harp and recorder consort, until I realised that this was really quite impractical and switched to the current instrumentation of Fl/Ob/Cl/Hn/Pn. The first movement, and part of the second were written during sixth form music, once I'd finished my NCEA composition and had nothing else to do. The suite was completed the following year under similar circumstances - though I hadn't yet finished my real work, and should probably ave got cracking on that instead. There are obvious jazz influences on rhythms and melodic shapes, textures change rapidly and I have tried to focus on a wide range of piano timbres. |
