| 12 October | I'm uploading a few of my assignments for CMPO 102. To whit: Piecemeal, Pudelnass and Das Sumpfgebiet |
| 3 June | So because it seemed like a good idea at the time, I did a Steve Reich-ing of John Key's comments about sacking Richard Worth. It took maybe twenty minutes. [Some time later] It's really quite funny that this piece is now a memorial to one of John Key's lies. Because, of course, Mr. Worth did not resign, and Mr. Key did sack him. |
| 2 June | CMPO101 major assignment completed - 3 minute piece for violin, sistrum and lever harp, using far too many quarter tones |
| 1 May | Ventilation Suite: I completed - first part of a suite for vibraphone, viola and violoncello |
| 25 February | Memoir of Flight - drone based electroacoustic piece |
| 14 January | Electroacoustic piece - Atalica - using harp samples, working on some other vaguely similar pieces |
| (4 November) | ...they venture... finished at last and handed in, although I'm still not entirely happy with it. There may be a reworking at some point. |
| (24 September) | Started a couple of sketches for a new piece for cat and harp - experimenting with alternative notation methods for this |
Projects | |
| Leap! Dance! Sing! | Three pieces for violin, woodblock and lever harp. Doing my best to make the lever harp parts lacking in levers - but pretty muc completely impossible to play on a pedal harp. The first piece (complete) is certainly impossible for pedals. Dance! is approximately half-way done. Sing! is only starting out. |
| CMPO102 Composition | Slightly more real composition that 101, but still pretty much the same format, a series of slightly more involved exercises and one major composition. |
| CMPO101 Composition | Mostly not real composition, a series of exercises, and one "major" composition, which I wrote for violin, sistrum and harp. |
| Ventilation Suite | A suite for vibraphone, viola and violoncello. |
| Gerald's Dream Suite | A suite of reasonably difficult, sonically bright pieces for harp. Planned to have 5-6 movements, two completed so far: "Gerald and the Ferrets" and "The Owlrange" |
| Onslow School Comp (2008) | Three compositions. "Convolutions" for four players with music stands and pencils; "The Unwelcome Guest" for clarinet, harp, percussion, violin and cello; "...they venture..." for four violins, flute, cello and piano. |
| Otto Ernst | Settings of poems from Otto Ernst's "Siebzig Gedichte" (Those who understand German will probably suspect that I won't do ALL of them). Two completed so far: "Der Einsame"; "Die Geister von Aenglistal" |
| Carolan two harps | Arrangements/recompositions of Carolan tunes for two harps. Completed: "Mrs Judge"; "Si Bheag Si Mhor"; "The South Wind"; "Betty MacNiell" |
| Limpid Suite | This is ostensibly finished at three movements, although I've been thinking of filling it out with a couple more at some point. "Limpid" is a bright suite for flute, clarinet, oboe, horn and piano, using modal, contrapuntal and jazz influences. |
